TRENTON — A man reported Oct. 13 that he was tricked into sending $500 via a gift card to a man that he thought was with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department.

He said the man had enough information that he thought the transaction was legitimate. It was only when he called back and another person answered, asking for another $500, that he began to suspect that the interaction was a scam.

He said that before he received the scam phone call, his bank flagged his account and debit card for possible fraudulent activity.

The victim was advised to contact his bank to see if he could get the $500 gift card purchase amount refunded.
