DEARBORN — A lane change turned into a case of road rage the afternoon of Sept. 15 as the target, a retired police officer, called 911 for help, while a police department drone followed the victim and aggressor vehicles until police officers reached the scene.
The incident began on westbound Ford Road between Hines Drive and Golfview Drive, when the driver of a red 2026 Chevy Equinox, a Dearborn man, tried to merge into the left lane, but the driver of a blue 2025 Jeep Wrangler, a Dearborn Heights man, would not allow him to do so. The Equinox driver then used his turn signal and moved into the lane in front of the Jeep driver, who began following the Equinox too closely and exhibiting aggressive driving behavior.
The driver being pursued called 911 and stayed on the line during the chase, and a police drone was sent up to monitor and track the situation.
The two vehicles wound their way through a residential neighborhood and past an elementary school, with the aggressor ignoring stop signs and driving in the wrong lane of travel in his attempt to keep up with his quarry.
A traffic stop was initiated at Lawrence Avenue and N. Elizabeth Street. The pursuer was cited for reckless driving and for following too closely in a school zone, and was released at the scene.
