DEARBORN — A minor girl who was arrested the afternoon of Sept. 5 for shoplifting at Walmart, 5851 Mercury Drive, was released to Child Protective Services after police officers in Dearborn and Detroit were unable to find a relative to pick her up.
The girl tried to leave Walmart with a television, jacket and miscellaneous clothing with a $266 collective value. Her shoplifting was recorded on surveillance camera footage.
She was taken to the Dearborn police station, where she was held pending pickup by a parent or guardian. The girl said she lives with an aunt in Detroit, and that she did not have contact information for her mother. However, police officials were unable to reach any of her relatives, either by phone or at her place of residence.
The Wayne County Youth Home said her misdemeanor offense did not merit her residency there.
Child Protective Services then expedited a pickup and took the girl into protective custody.
