TAYLOR — A security officer for Park Village Apartments of Taylor flagged down police officers the afternoon of Aug. 24 after a resident approached him when he was talking to someone in a vehicle and started yelling at him, slapping his phone out of his hand and taking off with his cane.
The man, who has a prosthetic leg, said he relies on the cane for mobility.
The police officers searched the area, and found a woman matching the description talking to another apartment complex employee. She had the security officer’s cane in her possession.
She said she thought the man was buying illegal drugs from the person in the vehicle to whom he was talking. She denied slapping the cell phone out of his hand and taking his cane. She said she needed to return to her apartment to care for her children, and since the police officers did not have enough probable cause at that time to make an arrest, she was allowed to leave.
The police officers then reviewed surveillance camera footage, which showed the woman walking in possession of the security officer’s cane.
They then went to her residence, but the man who answered the door said she was not there, and he was unsure of her whereabouts.
The police officers searched the area but were unable to locate her.
