DEARBORN – A Priority Waste Management truck with its front lift raised brought down power lines at about 4:10 p.m. Sept. 17 on Mead Street north of Colson Street.

A school bus with elementary school children that was traveling south on Mead north of Colson was blocked by the waste truck, and the bus driver allowed the children to exit the bus, with witnesses reporting that children walked under the drooping power lines.

Dearborn police and fire quickly blocked off the intersection, and a fire at a nearby junction box was extinguished.

While power to surrounding houses was restored by 6 p.m., DTE crews remained on the scene through the next morning.

A second Priority Waste truck arrived on the scene in less than two hours to complete the route.

An official at Priority Waste said that any time a driver is involved in an incident, mandatory substance testing occurs. They said the driver in question will likely be discharged.
