TAYLOR – The Wall That Heals, a Vietnam Veterans Memorial replica and mobile education center, will be at Heritage Park, 12111 Pardee Road, from 2 p.m. Aug. 12 to 2 p.m. Aug. 16.

The visit coincides with the Junior League World Series, so Heritage Park will experience a high volume of visitors.

The Wall That Heals is the official three-quarter-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, providing an emotional and cathartic experience for veterans, their families and the community at large.

It honors the more than 58,000 men and women who lost their lives during the Vietnam War.

The Wall has been in Wayne County five times in the past 31 years, and in Michigan 17 times.  Hosting the Wall is considered an honor for the city.

The Wall will arrive Aug. 11 with a motorcycle escort, and will be assembled Aug. 12 at the site.

On Aug. 13, an opening ceremony and public viewing begins, with viewing available 24 hours a day.

At 6 p.m. Aug. 14 there will be a ceremony to remember Vietnam veterans who died due to exposure to Agent Orange and as a result of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

A closing ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. Aug. 16 before the Wall is dismantled and prepared for its journey to Battle Creek, where it will be on display Aug. 20 to 23.

Volunteers are needed to help during the event.
