HEIGHTS – Retiring Fire Chief David Brogan, a 34-year department veteran, will be celebrated 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 1 at Fire Department Headquarters, 1999 Beech Daly Road.

Brogan, who joined the department in February 1992, will be honored at an event open to residents, city employees, elected officials, representatives from neighboring communities, and members of the Michigan Chiefs Association, and will include remarks from city leaders and a reception lunch.

Brogan began as a firefighter, and moved up through the ranks as a pump operator, lieutenant, captain and fire marshal before becoming chief.

When Dearborn Heights initiated advanced life support services, he was one of the department’s first nine paramedics.

Brogan held elected positions with Dearborn Heights Professional Firefighters Union Local 1355, and is a member of the National Fire Protection Association and the International Association of Fire Chiefs.

He is knowledgeable in fire suppression and prevention, and in 2013 he completed Eastern Michigan University’s School of Staff and Command.

Brogan’s father served as a Detroit firefighter, retiring as a senior chief after 38 years with the department.

Mayor Mo Baydoun said Brogan will leave a lasting mark on the Fire Department and Dearborn Heights.

“It is only fitting that we honor his legacy by naming our new fire station after him, ensuring that his name stands as a symbol of service and dedication for generations to come,”  he said. “This celebration is a reflection of the deep respect our community has for his service.”
