RIVERVIEW — A 33-year-old Monroe man was arrested at 1:45 a.m. April 19 on southbound Fort Street after he was seen driving at a high rate of speed without headlights on.
The man initially announced that he was “having a baby” and was headed to Hutzel Hospital and planned to jump onto the Southfield Freeway, both of which were in a direction opposite to that which he was currently traveling.
He smelled of intoxicants, his driver’s license was suspended and he did not have car insurance. He had a prior alcohol offense and eight recent citations for driving with a suspended license, as well as 12 active arrest warrants.
He failed standardized field sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test was administered and the man had a blood-alcohol content of 0.177, more than twice the 0.08 limit for legally drunk in Michigan.
After he was arrested for drunken driving, he became angry, adding resisting arrest to his charges. He threatened the police officers as they drove him to the station.
A warrant was obtained for a blood draw, and he was taken to a local hospital for its administration.
His car was searched, impounded and towed, and a repeat offender license plate was issued.
