The MCOLES role is a reappointment, through which Shahin will represent the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police through Dec. 31, 2030.
MCOLES promotes public safety in the state by setting standards for selection, employment, licensing, license revocation and funding in law enforcement and criminal justice in both the public and private sectors.
Shahin’s appointment to the Automobile Theft Prevention Authority Board of Directors is a new role, and will begin July 2 and run through July 1, 2030. He will succeed Daniel Pfannes.
The Michigan Automobile Theft Prevention Authority assesses the scope of motor vehicle theft, analyzes methods to combat the problem, establishes a plan to provide financial support to combat it, and provides grant funding for theft prevention teams.
Shahin, who has been with the Dearborn Police Department since 1998, has a bachelor’s degree in political science and master’s degree in homeland security and emergency management from Eastern Michigan University, where he also completed the School of Police Staff and Command Executive Leadership program.
Whitmer’s appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the state Senate.
