SOUTHGATE — A woman and her grandchildren were safely evacuated from a house the afternoon of Feb. 14 after a fire in a trash can caused damage to the east side exterior of a house owned by the woman’s son.
Upon smelling smoke, the woman tried to extinguish the flames with water, but the garden hose was frozen. She then asked a neighbor to call 911.
The Southgate Fire Department responded and provided pertinent information to the responding police officer.
