MELVINDALE – Police Chief Chris Egan announced Jan. 21 that he has transitioned from interim to permanent status and said Detective Mitchell Heaney has been promoted to sergeant.
City Clerk David Zajac swore in Heaney during the Jan. 21 City Council meeting.
Egan said Heaney did well on the sergeant’s exam, with an 81 score on the test.
Heaney has been with the Police Department for more than two years, and has 18 years of law enforcement experience.
Egan said the department is working to hire more police officers and is in the process of doing background checks on five candidates.
He said this was a positive thing and they are trying to get leadership set up and in place before any new hires enter the department.
