DEARBORN — An Ypsilanti man who was driving 93 mph in a 45-mph zone on eastbound Michigan Avenue east of the Southfield Freeway at 1:24 a.m. Dec. 14 was cited for reckless driving and his tan 2015 Chevy Malibu was impounded and towed.

When the police officer, who was conducting stationery speed measurements on eastbound Michigan Avenue attempted to catch up with the driver, the man suddenly turned into the Henry Ford Centennial Library parking lot. The police officer was unable to find him there, but later located him in the nearby animal shelter’s parking lot.

When he approached the parked car, the police officer detected the odor of hard braking. The driver claimed he was merely doing doughnuts in the animal shelter parking lot and not speeding along Michigan Avenue, but the police officer did not believe his story.
