RIVERVIEW — A 28-year-old Riverview man was arrested for operating while intoxicated and for refusing to take a preliminary breath test the night of Jan. 5 when he was found passed out while in the driver’s seat of a red Ford Taurus with the engine running on Chatham Street near Old Town Drive.

The car was in park. The responding police officers saw a bottle of nitrous oxide on the passenger seat of the vehicle.

The man smelled of intoxicants, and when awoken, his speech was slurred and his eyes were glossy, with his pupils dilated. When he exited the vehicle, he was unsteady on his feet.

The man refused to cooperate with standardized field sobriety tests, and refused to submit to a preliminary breath test.

He was then cited for operating while intoxicated, and his car was impounded and towed.

A search warrant was obtained for a blood draw, and he was taken to Corewell Health Hospital in Trenton.

He was then taken to the Riverview police station, where he refused to cooperate during the booking process. He was then held to sober up.
