SOUTHGATE – Robin Craig of the Cultural Arts and Special Events Commission honored the top three winners of the city’s Halloween Decorating Contest during the City Council’s Nov. 19 study session.
First place honors went to Manny and Monique Samano of 15480 Meadow, whose graveyard display of grim reapers and deathly spirits was made scarier by red lighting at night.
Second place honors went to the family of Brianna Young for its display at 13403 Fordline, which featured frightening creatures bathed in blue and green lighting, emerging in threatening poses and seemingly ready to strike the unwary.
Third place honors went to Timothy Leigeber and Rachel Smith of 14152 Irene St., whose spooky lighting was enhanced by theatrical fog, which shrouded menacing skeletons, jack-o-lantern creatures and a giant, menacing scarecrow.
