HEIGHTS — A woman was scammed out of $8,000 Oct. 9 by a phone caller claiming to be with her bank’s fraud department.

The caller, who knew the victim’s name and account information, had a phone number that appeared on the victim’s caller ID that matched the phone number on the back of her credit card.

The victim was told to withdraw $8,000 from her bank account, then upload it into a new account, for which they provided an account number, at a nearby ATM. However, once the woman deposited the cash into the new account, the record vanished and she was not able to retrieve her money.

She said she told her bank about the incident, and was provided with a police report number.
