WYANDOTTE – UpNDown Gallery and gift shop, located in a 50-year-old building at 3205 Biddle Ave., celebrated its fifth anniversary Sept. 20 with art, carrot cake and camaraderie.

Gallery owner Jenny Senior, accompanied by her canine sidekick Max, said she bought the shop just before everything shut down for COVID-19.

She said she opened up the shop to the public in August 2020 and everything took off from there.

“We’ve been super lucky to revitalize and add more gifts,” Senior said. “I started doing gallery shows upstairs, and so, I blink, and it’s five years, so I’m kind of amazed myself.”

She said people were still masked due to the pandemic when she held her first gallery show, and she recently packed away the masks she had stored behind the counter.

Senior said her Halloween and Mermaid gallery shows are her favorites.

She said she does a show when she finds an artist to showcase or a theme she wants to highlight.

“Ideally, I’d like to do four a year,” Senior said.

She said her furry friend Max likes to greet visitors who visit the shop.

“He loves to see if they have anything in their snack bag,” Senior said. “He just loves to be here with people.”

In addition to the carrot cake, Senior had wine, subs and salad for her guests.

“Any excuse for a party,” she said with a smile. “Last year we did celebrate the 50th of the store, but now that it’s been me for five, I can take full credit for this part of it.”
