MELVINDALE – Charges brought against Mayor Pro Tem Joe Jackson by former Mayoral Secretary Cecilia Dally were dismissed Sept. 10 by 36th District Court Judge William McConico for lack of evidence.

When the judge warned witnesses against committing perjury by making statements that were in conflict with police officer body camera footage, the case against Jackson dissolved.

Dally had charged Jackson with assault and battery and disturbing the peace for an incident that allegedly occurred Dec. 18, 2023, at city hall.

After the charges were dismissed, Mayor Nicole Shkira said on social media that she “had no faith in our judicial system” and “after two days in court and everything was dismissed it was disgusting.”

Dally still has a civil suit in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan against City Councilmembers Dawn Cartrette, Julie Rauser and Jackson, which she filed July 29, 2024, claiming a civil rights violation. Before she filed the suit, her hours were reduced from full-time to part-time by an action of the City Council.
