SOUTHGATE — A woman was scammed out of $9,000 on July 9 when she received a phone call from an alleged attorney saying that her son had been in an accident, was in the Wayne County Jail and needed $9,000 in bond money.

The woman withdrew money from her financial institution, and a man in his 30s in a Chevrolet arrived at her residence to pick up the money.

The woman then spoke to her son by phone and learned that he hadn’t been in an accident or in any trouble.

She was unable to provide much of a description of the man or his car, and did not obtain the license plate. There was also no surveillance camera footage of the man.
