DEARBORN – Majd Baligh Alawdi, 3, of Dearborn drowned July 2 during a family outing a Lake St. Clair Metropark in Harrison Township.

An off-duty police officer from another area was at the beach and saw the child struggling in the water. He performed CPR until rescue personnel arrived.

The boy was taken to McLaren Hospital, where he died.

Metropark police are investigating the cause of the drowning.

Huron-Clinton Metroparks CEO Amy McMillan called the event a tragedy.

“Our hearts go out to this child’s family, friends and community,” she said.

Services were held July 5 at the United Community Center in Hamtramck.
