LINCOLN PARK – Sirens roared, bands trilled, politicians waved and kids scrambled for candy during the city’s annual Memorial Day parade down Fort Street, which was followed by a ceremony in Memorial Park.

The northern border of the park was awash with a sea of American flags, creating a colorful and patriotic visual finale to the parade route.

Mounted patrols, police cars, ambulances and fire engines led the parade, followed by Grand Marshal Marc Davis.

Participating veterans made a strong showing, whether in cars, on motorcycles or on foot.

U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-12th District) and U.S. Rep. Shri Thandar (D-13 District) took part, along with Wayne County Commissioner Cara Clemente, Lincoln Park city council members, Mayor Maureen Tobin, and City Clerk Kerry Kehrer, who rode in a vintage Ford.

Rose Clemente Jackson, who celebrated her 100th birthday before the city celebrated its milestone, smiled as she rode along the parade route.

The Knights of Columbus took part, as did the Shriners with their comic routines on minibikes and in clown cars.

Scouts, youth sports groups, the Lincoln Park High School Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps color guard and the Lincoln Park High School marching band brought their respective energy and enthusiasm to the parade route.

Following the parade, residents gathered at Memorial Park for a remembrance ceremony led by local veteran groups.

Joscelyn Van Cleave lent her vocal talents to the service, which was led by American Legion Post 67 leader Tracy Kirkendall and included a speech by Tobin.
