TAYLOR — Flock license plate reading cameras alerted patrol officers to the location of a stolen car March 24, and a tracking dart allowed the vehicle to be followed and recovered without a high-speed chase when the driver failed to respond to a traffic stop.
The red Honda Civic, stolen earlier that day in Lincoln Park, was found traveling north on Pardee Road near Superior Road.
After failing to respond to a traffic stop and fleeing from Taylor police officers, a tracking dart was deployed and the vehicle was tracked at a distance. It traveled on I-94 to the Livernois exit in Detroit, and eventually was parked near Norman and Woodmere streets.
When police officers arrived, the vehicle was found abandoned. A K-9 track was initiated. The vehicle was searched, and needles and a crack pipe were found inside. It was then impounded and towed.
The female driver, a 29-year-old Petersburg woman, was found nearby and taken into custody for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of narcotics equipment, and fleeing and eluding police. She also had a suspended driver’s license and arrest warrants from multiple jurisdictions. Her male passenger, a 29-year-old Lincoln Park man, was not found.
