SOUTHGATE — A cardboard box left sitting on top of a stove may have caused a house fire that occurred the morning of Feb. 10 in the 14000 block of Poplar Street.

A woman and her two boys, along with two dogs, were safely evacuated from the house. The status of their three cats was unknown.

It is possible that a male resident who left the house before the fire ignited left the box on the stove.
