Andrew Mark Bays

Suspect arraigned on 2 felony counts – held on $500,000 cash bond.

HEIGHTS – A Dearborn Heights man, accused of making threatening social media postings directed toward a local school was arraigned today in 20th District Court on two felony charges, and is being held on a $500,000 cash bond.

Last weekend, the Police Department received information from a fellow law enforcement agency, alerting them to the presence of threatening social media postings that were directed toward a Dearborn Heights school.

Following a weekend-long investigation by detectives and other police personnel, a search warrant was sought for and granted for a home on the 5000 block of Pardee Street where Andrew Mark Bays resides. During their investigation, investigators discovered multiple firearms, plus indications of threatening ideology, which led to Bays’ arrest.

Bays was arraigned on March 6, and was charged with two felony counts: intentional threat to commit act of violence against a school, and using a computer to commit a crime. The first count carries a maximum 10-years in prison and $20,000 fine, while the second count carries a maximum 10-years in prison and $10,000 fine.

Bays was given a $500,000 cash bond with an electronic tether requirement should he post bond.

DHPD Support Services/Internal Affairs Director Paul Vanderplow expressed confidence that while this is an active investigation — with judicial proceedings still pending — there is no additional threat to schools or the community stemming from this incident.
