TAYLOR — A con man tricked an 18-year-old clerk at Walgreens, 9100 Telegraph Road, on Feb. 23 into letting him buy four $250 gift cards by getting him to open his till by entering the cash transaction button after scanning a bar code from his smart phone electronic wallet.

The con man showed the clerk a receipt on his smartphone after each transaction, which made it appear as if the transaction had been paid by a charge. The trick, however, causes the cash register to come up short for the actual amounts of the transactions.

The man also purchased toilet paper and a candy bar.

Shortly after the man left the store, Walgreen’s fraud alert company called and informed the clerk of the fraudulent transaction, and a police report was initiated.

The con  man was a black male in his late 20s or early 30s, 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet tall, weighing 180 to 200 pounds, with short dark hair in dreads and tattoos on both arms and his right hand.
