TAYLOR — Norman Edgar Newman, 38, of Taylor was charged in the Feb. 3 incident in which he killed a 34-year-old Taylor woman’s dog while speeding and driving recklessly on Holland Road near Goddard Road, where she was walking her dog.

Newman allegedly fled the scene after hitting the dog with his vehicle. The woman rushed her dog to a local animal hospital, where it succumbed to its injuries.

Newman was charged with abandoning and cruelty to an animal resulting in death, reckless driving, and driving with a suspended or revoked license. He is currently out on bond, and was scheduled for a Feb. 24 pre-trial hearing.
