Dearborn City Clerk’s office has information for local candidates

February 6, 2025 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

Dearborn City Clerk George Darany

DEARBORN — The City Clerk’s Office is ready to assist residents who want to run for office in this year’s city elections.

Offices on the ballot this year are mayor, clerk and all seven seats on the city council. The primary election will be held Aug. 5, followed by the general election Nov. 4.

Candidates have until 4 p.m. April 22 to submit petitions to be on the ballot.

“My office has prepared a package of information to guide candidates through the process of getting on the ballot,” City Clerk George Darany said. “The information may be obtained at the Clerk’s Office in the Dearborn Administrative Center, 16901 Michigan Ave.”

The City Charter requires that a candidate for Dearborn city office must have resided in the city for at least one year, be registered to vote in the city, and have never been convicted of a felony. Prospective candidates will be required to submit a notarized Affidavit of Identity and also asked to sign an affidavit stating that they meet the City Charter’s requirement to hold office.

Candidates must submit at least 100 valid signatures, but not more than 200, of registered Dearborn voters to get on the ballot.

The state requires all candidates to create a candidate committee under the Michigan Campaign Finance Act, and file campaign finance reporting as required by law. Darany said the information package his office has compiled includes information to guide candidates through this process.

More information is available by calling the Clerk’s Office at 313-943-2010.
