MELVINDALE — An anonymous text message alerted a landlord to an attempted break-in Jan. 14 at his vacant rental house in the 2800 block of Emily Avenue.

The landlord, a 75-year-old St. Clair Shores man, said a bedroom window on the north side of the house was pried open and the lock defeated. The window screen was missing and there were pry marks on the window frame.

The complainant said nothing was missing from the interior of the house. He said his former tenant was recently standing across the street staring at the house when he was inside the day before doing repairs.
