TRENTON – The Downtown Development Authority approved a Business Improvement Grant for J.J.L. Investments at 2674 Jefferson Ave. as part of its Business Improvement Grant Program.

The renovation incentive program reimburses up to 50 percent of eligible costs for façade work, up to $50,000, for commercial buildings within the DDA district.

Jennifer and Jonathon Lovy of J.J.L. Investments are seeking a façade improvement grant for the property they purchased in 2017, for which they have already invested in a new roof, asbestos abatement and a heating, ventilation and air conditioning system.

Jennifer Lovy said they initially focused on investments that would improve the interior of the building and held off on exterior improvements.

The applicants submitted two bids as required for the project to improve the building’s aesthetic appearance. The project they seek to do will cost $225,000 to $250,000 to complete.

The project would finish the exterior of the building, known as the Trenton Wellness Center, and provide conditioner, mudding and a finish coat over pebbled rock panels, adding a new color and texture to create a fine finish on the exterior. The work would cover all four walls and the bump outs around the windows.

With the DDA grant projects, a reimbursement check is issued by the DDA following a successful inspection of the completed project.

DDA Director Angelia Pusino said several other businesses on Jefferson Avenue are in the initial phases for applying for exterior business improvement grants as well.

Mayor Steve Rzeppa said he is excited about the project.

“I am eager to see this one get launched,” he said.
