DEARBORN — License plate-reading cameras and a drone were used by Dearborn police officers in the early morning hours of Dec. 9 to recover a stolen vehicle and locate a suspect in the area of Brady and Cherry Hill streets.

The suspect, who had been attempting to open car doors in the Country Club neighborhood in the west end, was taken into custody following a brief foot chase.

Avion Johnson was charged Dec. 10 in 19th District Court with receiving and concealing a motor vehicle.

Police Chief Issa Shahin credited the technology and collaboration with the night shift officers, the special operations team and the drone officers with the successful apprehension of the suspect.
