SOUTHGATE — A woman who thought she had reached an Apple Care customer service phone number she found online Nov. 7 was scammed out of $2,388, which she provided via gift cards.

The man talked her into providing her banking information and purchasing gift cards, from which she provided the payment codes.

Later, when the woman realized she had been scammed, she contacted her financial institution and changed her account information.
