TAYLOR — A 33-year-old Van Buren Township woman was cited at 1:48 a.m. Nov. 3 for operating under the influence of alcohol after she crashed her 2009 Ford Focus into the rear of a 2006 Chevrolet Aveo.
The woman smelled strongly of intoxicants, was swaying and unsteady on her feet, and had slurred speech.
She admitted to drinking earlier, and said it likely impacted her ability to drive. An open alcohol container was found in a cupholder of her vehicle.
The woman failed numerous standardized field sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test was administered, and the woman had a blood-alcohol content of 0.197, more than twice the 0.08 limit for legally drunk in Michigan.
She was taken to a local hospital for a blood draw. While there, she complained of pain in her hand, and was held at the hospital for an X-ray and treatment.
The driver who was rear-ended did not sustain any injuries.
