RIVERVIEW — A 38-year-old Southgate man was arrested the night of Nov. 6 for operating under the influence of liquor, for having an open intoxicant in a motor vehicle and for not having car insurance following a traffic stop for speeding on Fort Street near Williamsburg Drive.
The man, who said he had been at a cornhole tournament, smelled strongly of intoxicants.
He failed standardized field sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test was administered, and the man had a blood-alcohol content of 0.124, more than the 0.08 limit for legally drunk in Michigan.
A half-full can of cold beer was found tucked between the center console and the front seat.
Since it was his third drunken driving arrest, his metal license was confiscated and a paper plate issued.
The man had no insurance, and was unable to provide any paperwork for the vehicle.
He was taken to a local hospital for a blood draw, then returned to the police station for booking, after which he was held.
