WYANDOTTE — A reckless driver going 70 mph near 2nd and Chestnut streets in a residential Wyandotte neighborhood at 1:55 a.m. Oct. 12 refused to cooperate with a traffic stop and led a police officer on a high-speed chase through Wyandotte, Ecorse, Lincoln Park, Detroit and Melvindale before crashing into an assisting patrol vehicle at I-75 and Schaefer Road, then breaking down near I-75 and Outer Drive.

The driver, a 29-year-old Westland man, was charged with fleeing and eluding police officers, a felony; operating while intoxicated; and driving with a suspended license.

His passenger, a 27-year-old Detroit man, was charged with having an open alcohol container in a motor vehicle.

Both men were reportedly defiant and blamed the arresting officer for their criminal behavior before being transported back to Wyandotte where they were held.
