HEIGHTS – John F. Kennedy Library, 24602 Van Born Road, hosted its first Artisan Fair Oct. 5 to encourage residents to visit the library and check out its services.
Branch Librarian Carolyn Smith said the library staff is trying it out to see what type of response it creates, and hopes to have similar events on a quarterly basis, or even monthly if it grows in popularity.
“We’re looking forward to having more people in,” Smith said. “It was absolutely free, no residential requirements, we just asked them to bring their own tables because we didn’t have a lot of tables.”
She said artisans usually have their own unique setup anyway to display their items.
Smith said she loves bringing in a new group of people to the library who may not have visited it before.
“I know we’ve done a couple of new library cards today for new people who have never been in the library,” she said. “So, that’s always our goal, to bring people back into the library, whether it’s for a program or to check out books.”
Smith said the library’s usage volume is getting back to pre-COVID volumes.
“It’s always about bringing patrons in and just providing a new service,” she said.
