DEARBORN – When the former Hyatt Regency goes to auction Oct. 7 to 9, city officials are encouraging bidders to deliver “fresh ideas” that “adhere to the highest standards for redevelopment.”
Mayor Abdullah Hammoud said city officials do not intend to be passive actors in the city’s future.
“We look forward to working with potential investors on this central property,” he said. “The residents have a vision for this site, and as their voice, we will work to ensure that vision is realized.”
The hotel, which once hosted the Hyatt Regency and later the Edward Hotel and Conference Center, is close to Ford Motor Co. World Headquarters, Fairlane Town Center, The University of Michigan-Dearborn and Henry Ford College.
While a recent investor sought to rehabilitate the property into a mixed-used facility, the plans lacked capital investment and the site remained vacant.
City Council President Michael Sareini reiterated the need for responsible development.
“We know from experience that only a skilled and earnest investor who is willing and capable to deliver a high-quality project will be able to succeed ushering this historic Dearborn landmark into its new chapter,” he said.
