WYANDOTTE — A 32-year-old Highland Park woman and a 23-year-old Detroit woman were arrested following a Sept. 8 late night, high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle.

While on patrol near Fort Street and Eureka Road, a police officer spotted and began following a stolen vehicle that had fled from police officers in a neighboring Downriver city three days earlier.

As additional police officers arrived in the area of Pennsylvania Road and Fort Street, they attempted to box in the suspect vehicle to avoid a high-speed chase. One officer attempted to break a car window in an attempt to apprehend the women. However, the driver of the vehicle accelerated and crashed into two police vehicles before fleeing at a high rate of speed.

The driver then ditched the car in a parking lot near Orchard and Fort streets, and she and the passenger attempted to flee on foot in separate directions. Both were apprehended several blocks away.

Police officers found items with tags from retail outlets inside the car that were presumed to be stolen.
