TRENTON – The City Council unanimously approved and accepted a $48,868 grant award for firefighter turnout gear from the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity at its Sept. 3 meeting.
Fire Chief Keith Anderson said the grant covers the cost of 11 sets of Globe G Extreme turnout gear and 13 pairs of Extreme fire boots, at no cost to the city.
The chief said every firefighter currently has two sets of gear, but one of the sets is expiring or “aging out” due to the regulation standards.
“So, this is bringing back our quota so everybody has two good-aged sets of turnout gear,” he said. “It puts us a little farther ahead in terms of our replacement plans.”
