SOUTHGATE — A Southgate woman reported the morning of Aug. 22 that more than half of her recent Social Security direct deposit of $942 into her bank account was fraudulently used Aug. 9 by an unknown entity for a $492 Amazon purchase.

The victim was still in possession of her debit card, but believes it may have been compromised Aug. 1 when she withdrew $200 cash at a local party store. She has since canceled the compromised account and was issued a new card.
