SOUTHGATE – City Councilmember Greg Kowalsky, who filled the late Dale Zamecki’s seat April 3, 2023, will be stepping down from the council as he moves out of the city.

Kowalsky said he has had his eye on some vacant lots in another community near his wife’s sister’s house, and when the land went on the market he acted on, building a new house on the property.

“We raised seven children in a 1,200 square-foot bungalow in Southgate, and now my dear wife can have a beautiful new home,” he said.

Kowalsky said he was proud to have had an opportunity to work with an outstanding group of folks while serving as a Southgate council member.

“The mayor, his administration and my fellow council members are all dedicated to the fine city of Southgate,” he said.

Kowalsky said he wishes he could have joined the council sooner than he did.

He encourages his replacement to be sure to ask questions.

“Do your best to learn the department heads and their needs,” he said. “Seek to understand the objectives of the administration.”
