SOUTHGATE — A female scam artist impersonating loss prevention personnel Aug. 7 at Sam’s Club, 15700 Northline Road, was escorted from the store when a ruckus alerted real store employees to a con in progress.

A female customer said she was approached by a woman who accused her of shoplifting and told her to empty out her pockets. The customer protested, and said she didn’t even have pockets.

The female con artist then called a man on her cell phone, who loudly announced over the phone that he saw the customer shoplifting.

As the volume of voices increased, two real store employees approached to investigate, and the female con artist was escorted out by management.

Store management said they would document the incident but would not follow up with charges. The targeted customer, however, insisted that police officers be notified to document the attempted con.
