RIVERVIEW — A woman reported the afternoon of May 30 that she fell victim to a phone scam when $808 was fraudulently withdrawn from her credit union account.
She said the caller identification from the person on the phone led her to believe that they were from her credit union, and she provided them with her account information.
However, when the woman discovered an $808 withdrawal, she called another phone number for her credit union and discovered she had been defrauded.
She was given an identity theft packet and completed a fraud and forgery affidavit. The woman was advised to file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and to place a fraud alert for her name with the credit reporting bureaus.
