MELVINDALE — A woman who slammed on the brakes and decided to not run a red light on Outer Drive at 4:45 a.m. May 30, after spotting a police vehicle, caught the attention of a police officer, who ran the license plate and discovered that the vehicle owner had a suspended driver’s license and no vehicle insurance.
The driver, a 33-year-old Ecorse woman, had been cited two weeks earlier by a Melvindale police officer for driving with a suspended license.
The woman smelled of alcohol, and admitted to having “one shot of wine” earlier. She proceeded to fail several standardized field sobriety tests.
A preliminary breath test was administered, and the woman had a blood-alcohol content of 0.107, more than the 0.08 limit for legally drunk in Michigan.
She was taken to the Allen Park Police Department for another breath test, and her vehicle was impounded and towed. She was cited for operating while intoxicated, driving with a suspended license and for not having vehicle insurance.
