WYANDOTTE — An intoxicated 69-year-old Detroit man was arrested the night of April 21 after he attempted to flee a traffic stop, which later resulted in a crash and the discovery of drugs in his vehicle.
When a traffic stop was initiated at Cora and Alkali streets for multiple infractions, the driver sped off as officers approached his vehicle. As his speed exceeded 60 mph, he ran a stop sign at Goddard Road and crashed into another motorist. The fleeing driver’s vehicle then hit a tree.
The man was then extracted from the car, handcuffed and charged with operating while intoxicated and with fleeing and eluding.
A search of his vehicle revealed more than three grams of crack cocaine, resulting in additional cocaine possession charges.
Police officers also found an open bottle of vodka, several open containers of beer and drug paraphernalia inside the passenger compartment.
