MELVINDALE — The driver of a silver Infiniti who ran a red light at 4 p.m. April 2 that caused a three-car crash at the intersection of Allen Road and Oakwood Boulevard was found to have khat, a schedule 1 drug, in the vehicle.

Schedule 1 drugs are those with no current medically accepted use and a high potential for abuse.

The at-fault driver hit a Bronco that had the right-of-way. The Bronco then crashed into a Ford Fusion.

The Infiniti and Bronco drivers were taken to the hospital, while the Fusion driver was not physically injured. The crash is under investigation.
