SOUTHGATE — A woman who thought she was buying a car from her daughter’s friend on March 1 lost $2,100 and later discovered that the young woman’s Facebook account had been hacked and she didn’t have a car for sale on Facebook Marketplace.

The purchaser transferred $500 initially, then the rest of the amount in five additional installments because the faux seller said they were trying to purchase another vehicle themselves.

However, when they went to the address to finally pick up the car, the victim discovered the woman they thought they were buying a car from no longer lived at that address, and they found that the hacked Facebook account had been deleted.
