RIVERVIEW — A 53-year-old Trenton woman was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and refusing to submit to a preliminary breath test at 12:50 a.m. Feb. 4 on Fort Street near Sibley Road, where she rear-ended a silver 2017 Ford Escape with her black 2022 Jeep Wrangler.

The at fault driver said she was distracted while using her phone while driving. However, she smelled of intoxicants and her eyes were watery and glossy. She admitted to having had two glasses of wine earlier.

The woman failed multiple standardized field sobriety tests and refused to take a preliminary breath test at the scene, so she was arrested and taken to the Riverview police station, while her vehicle was impounded and towed.

The woman was allowed to make several phone calls for legal advice, after which she agreed to take a preliminary breath test, which revealed a blood-alcohol content of 0.15, almost twice the 0.08 limit for legally drunk in Michigan.
