WYANDOTTE – Vibrant art, colorful beach wear and warm interactions set the mood for the second annual Beach P-Art-Y Jan. 20 at River’s Edge Gallery on Biddle Avenue.
The show features the work of both in-studio and guest artists.
Patt Slack, owner of River’s Edge Gallery, said when the temperatures are below zero it’s the perfect time to have a beach party.
She said the reception provides an opportunity to introduce new artists, re-introduce others and display the work of the gallery’s artists in residence.
One of the new featured artists, Tsiuri Chachua, has split her time between Roseville and her native Republic of Georgia since her daughter married a U.S. citizen.

The carousel paintings of artist Julie Fournier of Hazel Park, who restores the Greenfield Village carousel horses, are on display Jan. 20 during a Beach P-Art-Y reception at River’s Edge Gallery in Wyandotte.
The carousel horse paintings of artist Julie Fournier of Hazel Park were also on display. Known for her pinstriping expertise, she works for The Henry Ford doing the detail paint work at Greenfield Village in Dearborn on the 1897 Baldwin steam locomotive and tinder train, as well as restoring the 40 animals on the Herschell-Spillman Carousel, which is ridden by 200,000 people annually.
A painting of a carousel sea monster, which she has restored to its original silver leaf color, is on display at the River’s Edge Gallery, along with other carousel steeds.
Fournier said the sea monster and an armored unicorn are among her favorite Herschell-Spillman carousel horses.
Resident artist Kyra Wojcik displayed some of her newer watercolors during the Beach P-Art-Y, including some with a global warming theme.
“It’s about the children – the children will save us,” she said. “We’re doing what we can now, but we’re not doing enough, and we’re not leaving them anything. Hopefully, they’ll be able to save the planet for themselves.”
