WYANDOTTE — A 30-year-old Flat Rock man was arrested following a traffic stop at 1:55 a.m. Jan. 20 on Biddle Avenue near Oak Street after the man was found with weapons and drugs while refusing to cooperate with police officers.

The man was spotted driving a pickup from which unsecured trash was spilling out of the bed. The license plate indicated the vehicle was not insured.

When a police officer approached the driver’s side window, he saw two double-sided knives protruding from the cover of the glove box. When the man reached toward the knives, he was ordered out the vehicle to separate him from the weapons.

The man, who had multiple fugitive arrest warrants, became irate, and shouted at the officer while stepping out of the vehicle but remaining in the vehicle’s doorway.

Another police officer arrived as backup. When an attempt was made to handcuff the man, he shoved at a police officer and resisted being restrained. A struggle between two officers and the man ensued. The suspect shouted “I’m going to shoot” and “I’m not going to jail,” and tried to reach the cab of his pickup, as if attempting to reach for a weapon.

The officers were eventually able to subdued the man using a chemical deterrent spray. The man continued his aggressive behavior during the booking process.

A search of the vehicle revealed crack cocaine.

The man was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of cocaine, resisting and obstructing, and with being a habitual offender. He was given a $50,000 cash bond with a GPS tether.
