TAYLOR – A lone barricaded gunman with a wounded abdomen surrendered the evening of Jan. 22 in the 11000 block of Polk Street and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Michigan State Police are processing the scene.

The situation began at 2 p.m. Jan. 22, when police officers responded to reports of shots being fired, and saw a white male resident armed with a shotgun, who retreated into his residence when he spotted law enforcement officials.

However, minutes later the gunman walked out his front door and fired his shotgun in the direction of the police officers, one of whom returned fire. The man then went back into the house.

The Downriver Special Weapons and Tactics team and crisis negotiators were called to the scene, and the man surrendering several hours later. He was medically treated by Taylor firefighters before being transported for further care.
