TRENTON — An email purporting to be from Paypal allowed a hacker to access a victim’s online personal computer records Dec. 12 when the man clicked on a “decline” link in the body of the email.
The victim reported Dec. 14 that the hacker attempted to remove $509 from his checking account to purchase crypto-currency with a “pending” transaction. He said his bank is attempting to block the transaction, but there are limited options until the transaction actually occurs.
The man was advised to flag his credit reports and freeze his other accounts.
